The Scientific Council of the Foundation "Metropoli Bisanzio"

The aim of the Scientific Council of the Foundation "Metropoli Bisanzio" is the coordination of the research activities of the Foundation, research and educational initiatives, as well as examination of the quality of the implementation of cultural, scientific, educational programs, realized with the support of the Foundation.

The Scientific Council develops priorities for research and educational initiatives of the Foundation for the study and promotion of knowledge about the history and culture of the Byzantine Empire in the countries that hold the heritage of this culture; is involved in the formation of scientific and educational programs and projects that promote the study of history and cultural heritage of Byzantium.

The members of the Scientific Council of the Foundation Metropoli Bisanzio are prominent figures in the Byzantine Empire studies, such as:

Sergei A. Ivanov. Doctor of historical sciences, professor at the Higher School of Economics, Professor of the Graduate Institute of Humanitarian Studies of the Russian State University for the Humanities, a professor at St. Petersburg State University, a leading researcher at the Russian Academy of Sciences

Prof. Elena Velcovska, professor of the University of Siena (Italy), 2013-2014 Fellow in Byzantine Studies at Dumbarton Oaks, Harvard, Honorary President of the International Society of Eastern liturgy

Prof. Apostolos Karpozilos, University of Ioannina, Greece

Dr Jonathan Shepard, Emeritus Lecturer in Russian History, University of Cambridge and Research Associate, Oriental Institute, University of Oxford

Dmitry E. Afinogenov, Ph.D., a researcher at the Institute of World History, Professor of Moscow State University

Under the guidance of the Scientific Council the Foundation Metropoli Bisanzio realizes the following projects:

- Award for the best book in the Russian language Byzantium

The Metropoli Bisanzio Foundation provides grants (donations) for projects complying with the mission and goals of the Foundation.
